You don't even get a “nice try” on that one. My comment only implicated one person of being turned on by the “pictures”, and that's the person who dreamed them up and inexplicably decided to share them with the world…

  • belindachance

    horrific annotomy

  • sublemon342

Idiot is a noun. “You are an idiot”. Which turns out to be true in this case as well. As for the pictures themselves, they're funny. That's about it. Calm down and find something better to do, you idiot (see there it is again!).

Hahaha, you sound like Tom Hanks in “Ladykillers” by the brothers Coen. Funny movie.
I think you're absolutly right. It is ridiculous. Bad technique and the paintings don't have any depth (I don't know the right translation for what I wan't to say).
Anyway, they suck. It looks like soft pastels.

What exactly qualifies as a usual naked painting of Obama with a unicorn?

These are hilarious. It's strange that any artist can doodle a caricature such as this without worrying about people complaining about the validity of the art, but can't “doodle” a painting without it being shat on. He did it for the lulz as far as I can tell. You don't walk into a parody expecting to be enlightened, and then complain when you aren't. Just laugh(or not) and leave, nothing to get worked up about.

Random female says: Um, no dude, those are so obviously about Obama's magic unicorn horn / penis destroying bear markets and…um, making sweet lovin' to Ugly Betty…and tracksuits…who is the upside-down fat man?

I don't know what Hugh Laurie / House M.D. has to do with it, but he looks just as uncomfortable as he should.

    These are hilarious.

  • Charlotte

Completely for the lulz. And I agree, people take this shit way too seriously.

  • yellowdatsun

I always suspected Obama was a replicant, this confirms it.

  • ariddle

the content is funny, but let's be honest, the work is not all that well done. look at stalin's hat. he/she has potential, but should spend more time on the work. even parody must have mastery.

Actually Tavyl I think you need to grow up. Sometimes it's not about how much talent about what you do with it. Clearly the artist was just trying to have some fun, and for many people, that's what art is about, simply having fun. I'm sorry if it doesn't meet your standards, but clearly the artist isn't trying to be taken seriously here, so why don't you stop taking the works (and yourself) so seriously?

    Just relax.
It's fun not to be pretentious sometimes, trust me.

  • Tayvl

Fun implies humor, and the pictures have none. I was thinking more along the lines of fetish, which implies that the person who produced the pics has an unnatural and disturbing obsession with Obama. I commented on the amateurish quality of the work because that's where the “artist” missed his last opportunity to give the pictures some other redeeming quality in lieu of content.

I assure you there's not a pretentious bone in my body, mon ami… Actual grownup-type “fun” would have made this whole conversation moot.

  • PJ

    I pissed myself laughing.
It just begs the question: WHY?

The best artist I have ever seen. My art panties are going crazy for Unicorn Obama. Nickelback should use this as their next video theme.

I know the feeling of wanting to validate the expense of all those art classes, but your argument here shows that you have no perception of the artist's intent (homo-erotic??). If you don't find the paintings humourous, there is no need to debase the art itself. It seems as if you are being an elitist art critic, either figuring that anything painted should adhere to a certain quality, or that your feathers are ruffled by the fact that there is a naked man in the portraits, surrounded by such content that you can't convince yourself that you were looking at tasteful nudity.
People like you disturb me — people stuck in the confines of their education, feeling superior and considering themselves worldly for whatever reason. Your suggestion, “try having a complicated thought,” only proves that you are incredibly pretentious, despite your claims, along with your accusation of the artist's “simple mindedness.” I'm sure you think you have us all figured out. Have fun continuing to feel validated by unnecessarily criticizing people's creative endeavours and upstaging the replies and comments of us lowly simpletons who enjoy them.

  • Tayvl

I was a business major, had no art training. But I'm interested in art just as a lot of people are. It doesn't take an expert to recognize poor technique or sloppy construction; it simply takes an eye that's seen things done right. One can recognize talent even in art that isn't particularly pleasing to one's own tastes – it doesn't require an art education.

As for the humor part, I'll have to ask again what exactly is the humor here? Point out something clever or subtle about the paintings, please. It isn't hard to explain what's “funny” about, say, well-done cartoons, so it shouldn't be too hard to explain what exactly is it that you find humorous about these paintings. Please open my eyes to the humor you see. All I see are drawings that are only funny in the derisive sense of the term…

As for why I'm even bothering to comment (being someone who usually is happy to say nothing if nothing cordial can be said), it's because the creator of the drawings is trying to ennoble (in a truly feeble way) someone who doesn't deserve it. So my motive here is one of politics and philosophy, not at all pretentious art criticism.

an image that has an emotional response has some power. Orb, “greatness” is kinda passe, it is just an agreement between two people. like any other word. We perceive in an era of so many value systems that one model of great is limiting, is amusing art has prori, Art references vast outside influences. Hence systems of value are subject to collapse. This notion is abstract and can make people feel uncomfortable if they have strong judging personality characteristics.

There are efforts in composition in these paintings which recall multiple historic sources from classical to modern art. The mood of Obama and Wife isn't serious, they are jovial and the unicorn is a bit fantastic. The artist is also breaking convention, he is against establishment. This connects the work in thesis and rendering to social realism. It is conventional for artists to support a government endorsing social programs for reasons like the WPA, museums, or grants.

The pallets used in the work make use of contrast and are unified by color schemes.

Art is subjective it is all about perception. This is why it must be difficult to be an artist you are selling perception back to those who see, like preaching to the converted. That was vague but I am sure you can extrapolate it.

the rendering really doesnt adhere to your perception of nature does it? is art about what is natural? if so what aspect of nature? Physics, Optics, Biology?

  • NurseAmySilt

… the human body unclothed was porn in classical art too, just not riddled with the stigma, you can thank Catholicisms earlier years for all of that. I know it is cliche to knock on the history of catholicism. The body is about sex and flesh and mortality, not always about full blown erections but the themes of erotica are present in art. Art is like us sexual, it is not priori

Man, I'm sorry…but this is some of the funniest stuff I've seen in a while. I'd absolutely pay for these paintings…they're hilarious, even if they weren't meant to be….and I have a hard time believing that they weren't. Gotta love Obama between Stalin and House…and the unicorn ripping the EIB microphone from Rush, though the portrayal isn't all that flattering…if these weren't intended to be satirical, I'll eat my hat and like it.

  • http://nicepaintingsguy.com/ Anonymouse

The one with Obama sitting on a Horse and Sadam standing on the left and the medical professional on the right, the guy on the right looks like House LAWL!

  • http://nicepaintingsguy.com/ Anonymouse

This Tayvl guy doesn't seem to get it. I think he needs to open his mind other people's point of views. I dunno what being a business major has anything to do with anything except that you got a degree? Cool dude. I believe you can simply say it takes an eye to recognize when things are done right, but can you understand that you sound as if you had no idea where the artist is coming from? Its not necessarily the quality of detail, I think technique is important but who're you to say that its poor when I say its different. And sloppy construction? Nay, one who understands the humor doesn't claim such blasphemy! I think art's about being able to see what the artist was trying to portray and show us what they see. It may be humorous in a political sense or the fact that it's Obama, riding on a mystical creature which to me says, lol WTF? And your probably reading this like, “These Simple minded person who cannot see beyond the potential of useful symbolism between Obama and the unicorn…and maybe since my mental block is interrupting myself from receiving this message except for the fact I noticed his incorrect grammar usage when he should've said “this” instead of “these” because he was referring to himself (singularly) so I'll just attack his…wait…” Ha were you gonna say that? Eh fuck it, i beat you to it. Have fun receiving mercy from the such mature Internetz!!!!…or at least from myself.

As far as the paintings go (finally guy finally gets to the art, finally) I am REALLY positive he did this for the lulz and I especially enjoyed the painting featuring House, made me lol.

  • melissa

Is that first one a reference to beastiality-c'mon the alcohol, the pat on the back from a horse? The second one has a sexual reference as well…..really, you think this is appropriate?!!

A sitting president, albeit a questionable one, portrayed in such a banal manner.

The guy to his left is most likely Stalin, considering the Soviet emblem on his hat.

The pictures are hilarious. The people arguing about their meaning and quality even more so. Pass the popcorn … I'm kicking back to watch this one.

I do not think it counts as bestiality when with a mythological creature. Probally turns into Monica Lewinsky at midnight anyway.

  • NeroMaj

Art like many other forms of media is not about being done right or being perceived as right, it's about expressing what is inside of someone in a visual way so that other can ponder over their thoughts, feelings, etc…and take blind guess as to what it all means. Art can only be judged by the artist…if they think it is wonderful and a masterpiece, then it is…

  • pedantic

Terribly bad form to begin a sentence with 'but', sir. Tut tut.

  • patiencepie

    Oh these are sooo funny!!!!

Lighten up people! This is cool graffiti — not “fine art”! Okay? Got it??

I love Hugh Laurie as the American health care system and Stalin as “socialism” with a bottle of aspirin — making fun of both sides. And tub-of-lard Rush Limbaugh full of hot air floating into space!! There is one missing painting — the one of Obama sitting beside Chesley Sullenberger landing the plane in the Hudson River. That was also hilarious. So thanks, whoever painted these crazy things! You made my day.

P.S. I will say it is nice to have a President who looks good as a naked cartoon figure.

If there is one type of person in this world I'd like to see dead, it's Tavyl's type of person. You're only better than the people that think they're better than you, my friend. Enjoy the moment you realize it was all for naught as we all end up in the same place.

As for the art, it's unadulterated awesomeness, I wish i had the free form mind that could come up with these visuals.

  • Tayvl

You're a bigot and a coward. At least I'm honest in my comments and don't make up crap about “awesomeness”, which you did simply because you're an ignoramus when it comes to politics… Wishing people dead for comments is about as juvenile and inane as someone can get.
